05-22-09 South Jersey Parochial Championships

The last meet for Trinity this season as a team was all the way down in Pomona, New Jersey at Richard Stockton College. We were invited guests at this meet of parochial schools in southern NJ. Thanks to Coach Dave Pfeifer of Holy Spirit High School and the other coaches for permitting us to compete. It was a very nice day for us, with good competition in all events. Jared Hanko won two events, the 1600 (in a great race, which came down to the final 100) and 3200; Jared Freire was 4th in the 400 and 7th in the 200; and our 4x4 relay was third.

Personal records: Claire Sullivan in 800 and 1600; Sean Hickey in 100 (FAT) and 200; Christian Stempert in the 100, and a big PR in the 200; Aaron Hanko in 1600 and 3200; and Jared Freire in the 100 and 400(FAT). Also a personal record for Paul Sullivan in the 400, which was amazing as his blister from ACSI was still a problem.

Silver Spike Invitational Final Results: 05-11-09 JHS

We finally have received the official results of this meet. As previously reported, the Trinity Trailblazers won both the boys and girls divisions in this meet of 12 schools. The 12 schools were: The host, Gill St Bernards, Kent Place, Far Hills, Joe Kuschner HA, Montclair Kimberley, Newark Academy, Ranney, Oratory, Stuart, Timothy Christian, Trinity Christian and Wardlaw.

The boys won in impressive fashion, winning 5 events, three by Jonathan Campbell (400, SP, Discus), and one each by Tim Holmes (100 hurdles) and Justin Yen (LJ). Trinity finished second in four events, Daletyn Harris in the 100 and 400, Josiah Hanko in the 800, and Tim Holmes in the LJ. Josiah also finished third in the 100 to complete our team scoring.

The girls meet came down to the final event as previously reported. While Kent Place athletes won five individual events, they did not score at all in any other event, allowing TCS to win by one point with 26. TCS only won one event, the 400, won by Angela Martone. Trinity took second place in six events, Angela Martone in the 100 hurdles, Katherine Buckley (400), Jessica Schultz (LJ), Melissa Carbone (SP) and Leah Wis (DK, HJ). There were three third place finishes to complete our scoring, Jessica Schultz in the 200, Leah Wis (LJ) and Megan Hickey (SP). Truly a team win with six different athletes scoring and every point counting.

Morris County Championships Day Two

They did it! The 4x400 team of Ben Rumeau, Paul Sullivan, Jared Hanko and Jared Freire set a new school record in the event, running 3:35.50, breaking the old record set four years ago (see the post following this for details). Splits 54.9/56.2/52.5/51.9. Nice job!

The result was the more remarkable coming but a few minutes after Jared Hanko ran a huge PR in the 3200, running 9:27.83 to finish third in the event.

Other results from the day: Jared Freire 24.11, Ben Rumeau 25.22 and Jonathan Tilli 25.75 in the 200; Peter Smith 2:09.01 in the 800 and 18'2.5" in the long jump.

Morris County Championships Day One

Jared Hanko led the way for Trinity today with a huge 1600 PR, coming in sixth with a time of 4:22.04. Jared Freire also placed, coming in sixth in the 400 in 52.47, running out in lane 7.

Other personal records: Peter Smith 4:53.20 in the 1600; and Aaron Hanko 5:05.15 in the 1600.

Other results from this afternoon: Christian Stempert ran 12.57 in the 100; Ben Rumeau 55.00 and Paul Sullivan 56.12 in the 400; and Jared Hanko 132'01" and Peter Smith 121'07" in the Javelin.

Up tomorrow: Highlights should be Jared Hanko in the 3200, Jared Freire in the 200; and an attempt by our 4x4 relay team to go after the school record of 3:36.07, set in this meet four years ago by Josh Smith, Andrew Hanko, Nathaniel Smith, and Shawn McKinstry.

Silver Spike Invitational (Junior High) 05/11/09

Early news reported to me is that the junior high boys and girls both won their divisions in the Silver Spike Invitational at Gill St. Bernards today. There were 12 schools altogether in each division, consisting of prep schools, one other Christian school, and some public schools.

I now have field event information: The girls meet came down to the last event, everyone circled around the high jump, and the points Leah won were sufficient to get us the overall win for the meet! School record 4'6". Nice job Leah, all other field event scorers, and Coach Bob Wis who has done an incredible job with our field events this year. Field event scoring:

Recent Team Results

We have made it through the week of MACSA and ACSI with outstanding results. We began last week at MACSA with the junior high teams competing against 15 others in our division. Both the boys and girls teams took first place in the meet in spectacular fashion. The girls team scored 133 points and second place was 59 or so. The guys scored 125 points and won by a similar margin.

In the senior high meet the next day the high school boys scored 122 points, finishing ahead of second place Lititz Christian, which scored 91. The girls team, consisting of only three members this year, still managed a sixth place finish.

The ACSI meet places more of a premium on star athletes the way it is scored. In the mens senior high meet, we won our division for the eighth straight year, and also won the entire meet. Some spectacular performances as well, and Jared Hanko was the MVP. More later when we post the individual results. Our three person girls team was 10th of the 21 teams in our division.

Many Christian schools around the country are shrinking in this economic climate, and, as a result, there were 32 schools in the small school division this year. Both of our junior high teams were second out of 32. Solid results with many athletes scoring. Jonathan Campbell was second in the boys MVP race.

Today is the junior high Silver Spike Invitational and tomorrow and Wednesday is the Morris County meet, this year at nearby Boonton High School.
