Gill St Bernards Quad 04-30-2009

The Trinity Trailblazers Track & Field team traveled to Gill St. Bernard's School today for a Quad meet with GSB, Newark Academy & Kent Place. Very impressive results once again in this non-scored team meet, and some new people in some new events. A new school record for Angela Martone in the 100 low hurdles, breaking the long-held record of Ashley Lenhardt. New school record for Leah Wis in the high jump. Personal records for Megan Hickey in three events (100, 200, discus), Angela Martone in three events (100 LH, 200, 400), Leah Wis in three events (100LH, LJ, discus), Josiah Hanko in two events (800, 1600), Heather Martin in two events (100, discus), and Samantha Yamasaki in two events (1600 and 200). Other personal records set by Rachel Buckley (1600!); Shannon Grattagliano and Marley DeMarco in the 800; Jessie Schultz (200); Oliver Budd (200); Justin Yen, Tim Holmes and Marcus Prol in the long jump.

Meanwhile, at the Randolph Relays....

While the rest of the team was at the MCAA/Ringwood meets, four of our high school men competed in the Randolph Relays. The foursome of Peter Smith (1200), Ben Rumeau (400), Jared Freire (800!) and Jared Hanko (1600) won the Jack Webb Distance Medley Relay in our division in a time of 11:23.21. I like to enter this meet and run this event because Jack Webb was a teammate of mine at Colgate University in the early 1970's. They also competed in the 4 x 200 (7th in 1:40.36) and 4 x 400 (6th in 3:48.24) relays.

MCAA Invitational High School 04-25-09

The MCAA Invitational was held alongside the Ringwood junior high meet. Teams competing included Lehigh Valley Christian, Bethel and Abundant Life. Our boys came in first, and our three person girl's team came in second. Personal records for the day: Daniela Mallack (100,200, 100 hurdles), Charles Cunningham (SP, discus),Aaron Hanko (800, 3200), Sean Hickey (200), Tim Justnes (SP, discus), Christian Stempert (200), and Paul Sullivan (400, discus).

Ringwood Invitational Junor High 04-25-09

The Trinity Junior High team had another excellent day of competition of the first hot day of the year. This meet included the host, Ringwood (thanks to Joyce Bernhardt for a great job in organizing the meet!), Abundant Life, Bethel, Cornerstone and TCS. We do not have full results yet, so this will be updated when those are received. A spectacular day for Daletyn Harris, whose times for the day are the fastest any TCS 6th grader has ever run for the 100, 200 and 400! Nice job, Daletyn! Another significant result was the first 800 run by Samantha Yamasaki, who stepped in at the last minute (which kept her from getting overly nervous, we are sure), and came in second!

Pingry Quad Junior High 04-23-2009

The Junior High team began its real season on April 23 at Pingry in Martinsville. The meet is only for 7th and 8th grade students so some of our team had to stay home. The boys team did very well, with 12 PRs in 17 performances. Several girls had personal records also. Boy's PRs were set by Tim Holmes (100, 200, LJ); Ben Smith (800, SP, Discus); Josiah Hanko (800, 1600); Andrew Justnes (a big 17 second PR in 800, SP); and Justin Yen (100, LJ). Girl's personal records were set by Melissa Carbone (200 and Discus), Angela Martone (100 hurdles, 200), Katherine Buckely (800); Megan Hickey (SP); Heather Martin (SP), and Joy Rumeau (HJ).

Note: Our practice at 10AM tomorrow morning (Thursday 4/16) has been moved to TCS. Please DO NOT go over to the Montville HS track. TCS teams are not allowed to use the track for this one day only. Regular practice at the Montville track will resume, Lord willing, on Saturday 4/18.

Secaucus Patriot Invitational 04-13-09

The Trinity Trailblazers traveled to (good alliteration) Secaucus High School for the first time to participate in the Patriot Invitational Series. Good performances by all and we brought home a lot of medals as well.

Personal records:
Aaron Hanko and Jared Hanko in the 1600.
Sean Hickey, Charles Cunningham and Paul Sullivan in the 400.
Paul Sullivan and Charles Cunningham in the Shot Put.
Aaron Hanko in the Long Jump.

Medals: Jared Hanko won the 1600 in 4:35.8, and Peter Smith was third. Claire Sullivan was sixth in the women's 1600. Jared Freire was 4th in the 400; Paul Sullivan was 4th in the frosh 400; and Aaron Hanko 5th in the frosh 1600. Peter Smith was 6th in the Long Jump and Paul Sullivan placed in the frosh discus (will someone please e-mail me the place?).

Each of our three relay teams placed. The 4x800 relay team took third (Peter Smith, Jared Friere [2:14!!!], Aaron Hanko [about ten minutes after his 1600], and Jared Hanko). The varsity 4x100 relay took 5th (Ben Rumeau,  Charles Cunningham and Jared Freire); and the 4x100 frosh relay team took 3rd (Chris, Sean Hickey, Aaron Hanko and Paul Sullivan).

Week of April 13-18

The senior high team will participate in the Secaucus Patriot Series on Monday afternoon, April 13. We will leave TCS at 2:30 sharp. Drivers, I think, are needed. It is an interesting format, with a few events and divisions for freshmen and sophomores in most evetns as well. Most of our athletes will run one individual event in their age group(probably a 400 or a 1600) and one relay (4x800 or 4x100). Field events (long jump, shot put and discus) are available as well. Weather is predicted to be somewhat warmer than it has been.

Directions:
SECAUCUS HIGH SCHOOL
- Rt 3 East to Secaucus. When crossing the Hackensack River Bridge (just after Giant’s Stadium), be sure to get over to the right hand lane. Immediately after the Shell gas station will be the “Secaucus / NJ Turnpike” exit sign.
- You will exit here and proceed to the Sunoco gas station. Make a right at the gas station and go up to the traffic light. At the Light, make a right and stay in the right hand lane. Just past the next traffic light will be an Citgo gas station. Yield right at the Citgo station.
- You are on Paterson Plank Road. This will take you over Route-3 and heading north into town. You will now travel for (.7) seven-tenths of a mile before making your next turn.
- You will come to a slight fork in the road with a house in the middle of this fork. Yield right here and you are now on Farm Road. You will only be on this road for (.1 ) one-tenth of a mile. Take the second right on to Meadow Lane. You will travel Meadow Lane for only (.4) four-tenths of a mile until you come to a stop sign. (Note that you will be passing the exit gate of the high school).
- After passing the stop sign, you will proceed (.1) one-tenth of a mile until you come to the High School/Middle School entrance. There will be a large blue sign indicating the entrance on the left hand side of the street. Make a left at the main gate.
- There is a large parking in the front of the school. Make a left when entering the high school gate and proceed to this lot.

On Tuesday April 14 there will be a practice for senior and junior high school. It will start at 9:30 a.m and conclude at 11:00 sharp. Coach Wis has a business appointment at noon, so please be prompt in picking up your students. For those who have competed on Monday afternoon, we will concentrate on easy running and field events.

On Thursday April 16 there will be a practice from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

On Saturday April 18, there will be practice at the regular time.

Blair Quad Meet 04-08-2009

Trinity has been running at Blair for many years. When they still had the old cinder track, Trinity was their only home meet each year, and they have graciously continued to invite us back for an annual meet on their new all-weather track. We always enjoy our time there, and this year was no exception. For an early season meet, our results, particularly on the track, were exceptional. Other than the 400 hurdles, Trinity runners came in first in every event from the 200 to the 3200 as well as the 4x400 relay. Personal records were set by: Sean Hickey in the 100 and 200; Jonathan Tilli in the 100 and 200; Paul Sullivan in the 400 and Shot Put; Ben Rumeau in the 200; Charles Cunningham in the 400, Tim Justnes in the 800; Aaron Hanko in the 1600 and 3200; Jared Freire in the 200; and Jared Hanko in the 800. Jared Freire won the 200 and 400; Jared Hanko won the 800, 1600 and 3200. Our 4x400 relay team of Ben Rumeau, Paul Sullivan, Peter Smith and Jared Freire won in the last meter of the race in an exciting finish. Hun won the meet, Trinity was second, Blair third and Gill St Bernards was fourth. Results by event follow:

Pawlowski Ridgewood Relays 04-04-2009

Results of our first meet of the year follow.  It was a brisk first day with a
a strong wind most of the day.  Peter Smith set a school record in the javelin,
throwing 136'3" to break the prior record of Josh Smith.  Since Josh became
engaged last Thursday (Congrats Josh!), we do not think he will be too upset.  Our
javelin team (three throwers: Peter, Jared Hanko and Paul Sullivan) picked up medals
by coming in fourth in the event.

The highlight of the day was our win in the Distance Medley Relay, with Jared
Hanko, who started out in 4th place, 12 seconds back, passing by the eventual
second place team coming off the last turn.  It was a nice strategic race for
Jared as he split 4:36 for the 1600.  The other runners picking up the gold
medal for the race were Peter Smith (1200), Jared Freire (400) and Tim Justnes (800).

Our freshmen relay teams picked up medals in two events, the 4x400 and the 4x200.
The runners in each of these events were Sean Hickey, Aaron Hanko and Paul Sullivan.  They also took a 6th in the frosh Sprint Medley event.

Two additional runners competing in their first meet Christian Stempert ran well in the novice class, in the 4x200 and Sprint Medley events.  They
were joined in the former by Charles Cunningham and Tim Justnes, and in the Sprint
Medley by Charles and Ben Rumeau.

We ran two other Varsity relays, our 4x400 team of Ben Rumeau, Tim Justnes,
Peter Smith & Jared Friere coming in 8th; and our 4x200 team of Ben, Jared Hanko,
Peter and Jared Freire coming in 7th.  The 4x200 time of 1:41.2 equalled the fifth
best time our team has ever run (we have about 35 recorded times over the years).

GILL ST. BERNARDS: Tale 287 South to Morristown. If you know the back way from the first Morristown exit it will be quicker. In either event, you need to be on Route 24 West as you leave the Morristown Square (It is called Washington Street). Follow 24 to and through Mendham and then for about 1.25 miles and make a left onto Roxiticus Road (some maps say Roxciticus). There is a green sign there pointing to Gladstone. IMPORTANT: ROXITICUS IS RIGHT BEFORE A FIRE STATION ON THE LEFT. IF YOU COME TO THAT FIRE STATION HOUSE, YOU CAN TURN AROUND THERE.

Follow Roxiticus Road for a little more than three miles (Warning: Don't go off the winding road looking at the Mansions!) and make a right onto St. Bernards Road. - You are on Paterson Plank Road. This will take you over Route-3 and heading north into town. You will now travel for (.7) seven-tenths of a mile before making your next turn.
- You will come to a slight fork in the road with a house in the middle of this fork. Yield right here and you are now on Farm Road. You will only be on this road for (.1 ) one-tenth of a mile. Take the second right on to Meadow Lane. You will travel Meadow Lane for only (.4) four-tenths of a mile until you come to a stop sign. (Note that you will be passing the exit gate of the high school).
- After passing the stop sign, you will proceed (.1) one-tenth of a mile until you come to the High School/Middle School entrance. There will be a large blue sign indicating the entrance on the left hand side of the street. Make a left at the main gate.
